Rayl and I met up in San Francisco just a few weeks before Slack was set to reveal new features at the giant Dreamforce conference, which is hosted by Salesforce, which now owns Slack. She’s been at the workplace software company since the early days, back when it was a bitsy gaming company called Tiny Speck. ![]() Rayl is the senior vice president of product at Slack. That’s the green dot in Slack, the one that signals to everyone in your workspace that you’re available. Tip: Do note, though, that Slack shares your entire screen, so be sure to only have things open that you want to share with your team when you start sharing your screen in Slack.Ali Rayl has her qualms about the green dot. You can't let others control your screen, but at least that can help simplify giving feedback during a call. Click the single pencil icon to turn on a pen you can use to markup your screen, or click the multiple pencil icon to let others markup your screen. A small toolbar will show overlaid on your screen while the screencast is ongoing. Then, Slack will share your entire screen with your team. On Macs, you may first have to allow Slack to record your screen follow the instructions in the Slack popup to do that. To share your screen, click the screen icon in the middle of the set of buttons. Click the phone icon in any Slack channel or direct message conversation to start a call-which in Slack, calls are audio-only by default, with a camera button to click to start a video call.
